Job Description

Led by one of the most successful and innovative owners in motorsports, Chip Ganassi Racing has won 22 championships dating back to 1990. In addition, 2016 saw the team pick up their first-ever victory in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Overall, Ganassi has won six of the seven most iconic races in the world of auto racing with wins in the Indianapolis 500 (5 times), Daytona 500, Brickyard 400, 24 Hours of Le Mans, Rolex 24 At Daytona (8), and the 12 Hours of Sebring (2).

On the business side, CGR had one of the longest-running relationships in motorsports history with Target and currently can claim partnerships with PNC Bank, Parkland, DHL, and Honda, among many others. Today, Ganassi teams include three cars in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES and two in INDY NXT by Firestone. Ganassi boasts a state-of-the-art racing facility in Indianapolis, and a corporate office in Pittsburgh.

This position is responsible for preparing and quality-controlling the mechanical components of the race cars for race events and tests under the direct supervision of the Crew Chiefs and Team Managers.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Travel with the team to race events to ensure the car is fully operational and optimized for on-track performance.
  • Prepare and adjust, if necessary, completed race car components according to specifications for each event, following the guidance of the Crew Chief.
  • Assemble a complete supply of finished spare parts for race and test events.
  • Ensure assigned race car components are safely joined, bolted, or secured.
  • Disassemble and clean the race car after each race and test event.
  • Keep accurate records for all adjustable components of the race car.
  • Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure all vehicles are ready for transport by specified deadlines and work to improve functionality and quality.
  • Operate equipment safely, using recommended protective gear (e.g., eyewear, earplugs), and promptly report any safety risks to a supervisor.
  • Represent the team and sponsors professionally on and off the track. Respectfully engage with sponsors and their guests during shop, garage, and pit tours.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area at all times.
  • Assist other crew members with additional duties as needed.

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of experience as a mechanic in motorsports series.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; strong foundational reading, writing, and arithmetic skills.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical components and the structural framework of race cars.
  • Ability to interpret and apply setup specifications for race cars and ensure appropriate safety mechanisms for each component.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring tools and devices.
