Job Description:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Wind Tunnel Model Systems Engineer to join The Cadillac Formula 1® Team at our Silverstone facility.  In this role, you'll be part of a group supporting the development and integration of wind tunnel model systems and technologies.  At The Cadillac Formula 1® Team, we strive for excellence, and every team member is encouraged to express their ideas and contribute to our shared mission of success.

 

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Design and development of wind tunnel model onboard systems and off-model systems directly related to data acquisition, including specification of components, testing and coordination with model design
  • Design, assembly and development of bench test rigs for system checking and setup both on and off model
  • Design and development of control and acquisition software for the wind tunnel model and any related rigs
  • Support the setup and calibration of model systems, instrumentation and rig installations
  • Project management of sub-projects
  • Support technical fault logging and resolution of issues on the electrical and electronic systems of the wind tunnel model and test rigs in a methodical and timely manner
  • Investigate and research new and novel technologies, techniques and methodologies for wind tunnel model systems, including instrumentation, actuation, control, sensors and aerodynamic measurements, as required to improve testing performance
  • Ensure the wind tunnel is delivering class leading quality and throughput in support of race car aerodynamic development class-leading
  • Record data and document experimental methods, configurations, and procedures with accountability for detailed and up-to-date documentation for all the developed and installed systems
  • Work closely with aero development and performance engineers in defining and delivering upon requirements
  • Assist with the training of more junior group members

What do you need to bring to the team?

    • Proven wind tunnel experience, preferably within the motorsport industry, alongside extensive experience of wind tunnel model systems, sensors and pressure measurement instrumentation
    • Wide-ranging skillset, with good knowledge across electrical, mechanical and software/control disciplines
    • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
    • Experience of common industry communication protocols, for example: CAN bus, TCP, UDP, Ethercat, etc.
    • Experience in setting up and operating test installations, machinery and safety-critical equipment
    • Programming skills or experience with one or more of the following would be an advantage: National Instruments Labview or C-Rio FPGA
    • Good knowledge of data acquisition systems typically used in motorsport, for example: Pi Toolbox, Pi Diablo, ATLAS, System Monitor, alongside strong data analysis skills
    • Strong levels of IT skills, including MS Office, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
    • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills
    • Self-motivating, responsible and meticulous
    • Positively contribute to an open and inclusive culture
    • Proficiency in English Language Skills

The ideal applicant will possess excellent practical and technical skills along with the ability to work to tight deadlines both individually and within a team environment. This role demands a flexible approach to working hours and will include occasional overseas travel.
