Purpose of the Role:
To join our race for performance, we’re looking for an accomplished, creative, and highly organised Senior Specialist, Internal Communications Channel, Data & Insights to join our fast-paced team at the heart of Formula 1. This role is instrumental in driving employee engagement and alignment by managing internal communication platforms, delivering high-impact content, and using data and analytics to optimise strategy, reflecting the energy, precision, and innovation synonymous with the sport.
You’ll lead the strategy, execution, and continuous improvement of internal channels to ensure all team members—from the factory to the paddock—are connected, informed, and inspired. With a passion for storytelling and a strong command of digital communication technologies and data analytics, you’ll help shape the internal voice of a championship-winning team and drive high employee advocacy across McLaren Racing.
As part of a tight-knit, high-performing team, you’ll build strong relationships, bring curiosity and creativity to every challenge, and deliver detailed communication and engagement plans that align with both functional and organisational strategy.
Role Dimensions:
This role will drive high-profile internal communications initiatives that shape and strengthen organisational culture, while driving engagement and alignment with our objectives. You will be responsible for tracking data and insights to measure the effectiveness of communication efforts, ensuring continuous improvement and optimisation of our internal channels. With a particular focus on continuing to build and protect our hard fought for culture, this role demands creativity, vision, and an unwavering commitment to collaboration and inclusion. You won’t be afraid of getting stuck in, directly engaging in the development and delivery of impactful strategies that energise and connect teams to our vision and values with every word.
Based in Woking at the McLaren Technology Centre, has no direct reports, and reporting to the Head of Internal Communications. There may be some flexibility with working hours to fulfil this role effectively.

McLaren Racing is based at the iconic McLaren Technology Centre (MTC) near Woking. Here at McLaren, we offer hybrid working with 3 days a week based in the MTC.
Our state of the art, sustainable campus offers many facilities including a gym, restaurant and indoor and outdoor break-out areas, as well as direct access to park and common land. The MTC is connected to Woking mainline station via regular shuttle buses, from which London Waterloo is a 30 minute train ride.

Principal Accountabilities:
- Champion cultural initiatives and introduce data-informed strategies that reinforce our values and strengthen employee connection to the company’s mission.
- Develop and publish creative content and campaigns across McLaren Racing’s communication channels.
- Write, edit, proof-read, produce and deliver high quality content and targeted messages to varied audiences, translating complex information into clear and compelling stories.
- Work with designers, videographers, and stakeholders to bring stories to life in engaging, multi-format content.
- Develop and execute a forward-looking internal content calendar aligned to the race calendar, organisational priorities, and cultural moments.
- Oversee the execution of multiple cross-functional and high-impact comms projects and campaigns, that support key business initiatives, ensuring timely delivery and maintaining exceptional standards under demanding deadlines.
- Support internal events and activations with tailored communications and post-event engagement.
- Lead the management and evolution of internal communication platforms (e.g. intranet, Teams, Yammer, newsletters, mobile apps, internal digital signage screens).
- Ensure channels are effective, user-friendly, and accessible across all areas of the business.
- Establish best practices for digital internal communications and champion consistency across platforms.
- Ensure our channels are fit for purpose and resonate with our audience. Continuously scrutinise and refine them for optimal performance.
- Monitor and evaluate content performance and channel effectiveness using digital analytics and employee feedback, leveraging insights to enhance impact and guide data-driven decisions.
- Provide regular reporting and actionable insights to inform improvements and decision-making.
- Keep pace with emerging trends and technologies in internal communications and digital engagement.
- Partner closely with wider Comms team to align messaging and amplify initiatives.
- Build and strengthen relationships with stakeholders, establishing yourself as a trusted advisor to drive alignment and collaboration. Elevate the Internal Communications teams’ visibility and reputation as a key driver of organisational success and cultural excellence.
- Relentlessly pursue the optimisation of our processes and establishing advanced best practices.
- Act as a role model for our values, behaviours and culture. Mentor junior members of the team.
- Proven experience in Internal Communications (experience in sport, engineering, or technology sectors is desirable).
- Demonstrated success in using internal communication channels and innovative tools and technologies to support communications efforts.
- Understanding of the dynamics and different needs for channels for a trackside vs. factory environment.
- Familiarity with employee engagement platforms and internal listening tools.
- Appreciation of organisational culture and the critical role communications plays in shaping, reinforcing, and protecting it.
- Familiarity with cultural frameworks, diversity and inclusion principles, and employee engagement strategies.
- Excellent copywriting and presentation skills with the ability to understand and adapt different communication styles or tone of voice required for internal communications.
- Experience in change management and evolving workplace culture desirable.
- Ability to engage employees through different formats (events, film, and photography).
- Proven ability to multitask and manage multiple ongoing projects simultaneously.
- Expert knowledge of Microsoft products, including Teams and SharePoint.
- Proven experience in internal communications, content strategy or digital employee engagement, ideally within a high-performance or fast-paced environment.
- Outstanding writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with a sharp eye for tone and audience.
- Hands on experience with content management systems, internal comms tools (e.g. SharePoint, Staffbase), and communication analytics platforms.
- Proficiency in visual tools (e.g. Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) and confidence working with video and multimedia content.
- Strong project management skills and an ability to deliver under pressure—especially around race weekends or key calendar moments.
- A collaborative mindset with experience working across departments and levels of seniority.
- A passion for motorsport and an appreciation of the unique culture and rhythm of Formula 1.
- Ability to persuade and influence others through effective communication skills.
- Technically curious and data-literate, with a passion for using insights to continuously improve communication strategies.
- Ability to engage with multiple internal and external stakeholders at all levels of seniority.
