The role:
We have an exciting opportunity to join the Legal team at Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One as Senior Legal Counsel – Governance & Regulatory Lead.
This is a unique opportunity at the intersection of elite sport and business. You will play a key role in shaping and leading our governance and compliance strategy, helping to ensure that the team continues to uphold the highest standards of legal, regulatory, and ethical excellence – both on and off the track.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborating across the Legal team and wider organisation, you will lead our governance and compliance function, covering both corporate compliance and sporting regulatory obligations. Your responsibilities will include:
The successful candidate must have qualified as a solicitor with significant post-qualification experience either in the commercial department of a law firm or within an in-house legal team. Knowledge and/or experience of sports work is not essential, but a strong interest in regulatory work is important.
The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills and a proven, demonstrable track record of working successfully within a team. The Legal department requires someone who is resilient, calm when working under pressure (especially within tight timescales), has excellent attention to detail and is extremely well organised. An autonomous problem-solving approach coupled with a strong work ethic and a willingness to go “above and beyond” will be the cornerstone of the successful candidate’s approach to work.

- Designing and delivering the team’s governance, regulatory, and compliance strategy across all areas of the business.
- Serving as the primary contact for all governance and regulatory matters, ensuring compliance with internal policies, applicable laws, and external regulations.
- Overseeing corporate compliance frameworks, including anti-bribery and corruption, anti-money laundering, sanctions, due diligence, modern slavery, whistleblowing, and other key integrity and ethics matters.
- Supporting the General Counsel on regulatory requirements in connection with our participation in the FIA Formula One World Championship and other relevant sporting frameworks.
- Assisting with the organisation’s engagement with sporting regulators and industry bodies – including representation on working groups and committees where required.
- Supporting the resolution of regulatory investigations or disputes, including advising on contentious regulatory matters.
- Identifying, assessing, and mitigating legal and compliance risks across the business.
- Developing and maintaining effective policies, procedures, and internal controls that promote a strong culture of compliance and ethical conduct.
- Delivering engaging, practical training to staff at all levels to raise awareness and drive continuous improvement.
- Monitoring legal and regulatory developments, both in motorsport and across relevant jurisdictions, to ensure the team is anticipating and responding proactively to emerging risks and opportunities.
- Reviewing and negotiating contracts.
- Working in conjunction with the purchasing department to deal with all queries and negotiate with suppliers.
- Providing pragmatic, commercially focused advice on a wide range of issues to MGP management, marketing, finance, and operational teams.
- Driving continuous improvement initiatives across the Legal team, including the implementation of legal technology, process automation, and knowledge-sharing platforms to enhance team efficiency and effectiveness.
