As a Senior Gearbox Design Engineer with the Cadillac Formula 1® Team, you'll play a critical role in developing innovative, lightweight, and reliable gearbox solutions that deliver maximum performance under extreme racing conditions. This is a technical leadership role within our Powertrain Group, where you'll lead end-to-end gearbox design and integration while mentoring junior engineers and collaborating across disciplines. You will:

  • Own the end-to-end design, integration, and continuous development of gearbox assemblies and related transmission systems
  • Act as the primary technical liaison between design, analysis, manufacturing, and trackside operations
  • Lead complex mechanical design projects from concept through on-track validation
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, supporting their growth and development
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to ensure designs meet performance, safety, and FIA regulatory requirements

This is an opportunity for someone who combines vision, leadership and elevated technical knowledge. You must have:

    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field
    • 10+ years of experience designing and developing high-performance gearbox or drivetrain systems in Formula 1®, WEC, IndyCar, or a comparable motorsport environment
    • Proven ability to lead large-scale mechanical design projects from concept through on-track validation
    • Advanced proficiency in CAD systems (Siemens NX or CATIA 3DX preferred), with deep expertise in GD&T and precision tolerancing
    • Strong understanding of lightweight materials and composites, surface treatments, lubrication systems, and heat management for high-load rotating systems
    • Experience with structural validation techniques, FEA collaboration, and fatigue/damage-tolerant design
    • Solid knowledge of FIA technical regulations for transmission systems
    • Hands-on experience integrating composite gearbox housings and hybrid system components
    • Familiarity with advanced simulation tools and digital validation techniques
    • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present technical concepts clearly to both engineering and non-engineering audiences

A team like no other.

The Cadillac Formula 1® Team challenges conventions and redefines success through bold ambition, cutting-edge innovation, and an unwavering commitment to precision and excellence—on and off the track. This includes offering industry-leading pension, generous time off and, as part of a global brand, huge potential for career development.
