Job Description

The Performance Systems department comprising Race Operations and Performance Optimisation forms the backbone of race execution, relentlessly focused on turning potential into championship results. Race Operations is the heartbeat of trackside performance, covering critical functions such as Race Engineering, Strategy, Tyres, and Coordination. This team leads the planning and execution of each race weekend, using data-driven insights and engineering precision to maximise car and driver performance. Meanwhile, Performance Optimisation focuses on extracting every ounce of speed and efficiency from both car and driver, spanning the full race cycle from pre-event planning and simulation to live support and post-event analysis. Leveraging cutting-edge tools and data platforms, the team continuously refines performance and pushes boundaries. Together, Race Operations and Performance Optimisation form a seamless unit dedicated to delivering peak performance under pressure and transforming potential into results.

We are hiring for the following roles:

  • Race Operations Industrial Placement

Join our Race Operations team to support simulation work, data analysis, and post-event performance reviews across the full race cycle from pre-event planning to trackside operations. You’ll contribute to optimising car and driver performance using advanced tools and platforms, while also supporting FIA Formula 1 events and Academy Driver engineering activities. This hands-on role is ideal for students with strong analytical, engineering, and coding skills, looking to make a real impact in a fast-paced motorsport environment.

Shape the Future

  • Join the Race Operations group, where data, race strategy, and engineering come together to maximise car and driver performance across the Formula 1 season.
  • Gain hands-on experience supporting race engineering, race strategy, competitor analysis, tyre performance, and driver development through simulation, analytics, and operational support.
  • Contribute to the full race cycle from pre-event planning and trackside operations to post-event analysis helping shape how Williams Racing competes at the highest level.

Make Real Impact

  • Work on real-time data analysis, tool development, and performance reporting that directly influences race strategy and vehicle optimisation.
  • Conduct pit stop performance analysis, helping to optimise both operational execution and individual crew and driver inputs.
  • Support the engineering activities of Academy Drivers and contribute to the development of future talent through simulation and analytical insights.
  • Apply your skills in coding, numerical analysis, and statistical modelling to solve complex problems and deliver performance-enhancing solutions.
  • Communicate complex technical insights effectively through clear written reports and confident oral presentations, ensuring alignment across drivers and engineering teams.

Find Your Place

  • Studying a degree in engineering, mathematics, computing, or physics, with a strong foundation in analytical thinking and coding.
  • Experience with MATLAB, Python or Power BI is highly desirable. C# and C++ knowledge is a bonus.
  • Comfortable working with numerical and statistical methodologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and collaborative—ready to thrive in a high-performance, fast-paced team.
  • Motorsport experience through internships or personal projects is a bonus.
  • Performance Optimisation Industrial Placement

Join our Performance Optimisation team to support the study of performance development opportunities for current and future cars. This role offers the chance to collaborate with top engineers, contribute to our championship ambitions, and develop your knowledge of data-led car development and optimisation in a high-performance team.

Shape the Future

  • Support the development and optimisation of our race cars.
  • Gain first hand experience in vehicle dynamics, data analysis, and vehicle testing.
  • Learn from top motorsport engineers while developing your technical skills in a high-pressure environment.

Make Real Impact
