Job Description
Red Bull Powertrains have an exciting opportunity for an undergraduate student to spend a year as part of the Mechanical Development team. The placement runs from summer of 2025 for one year and offers the opportunity to demonstrate your enthusiasm and apply your knowledge in an open and dynamic environment. You will be based at our cutting-edge engineering and manufacturing facility in Milton Keynes, designed to produce high-performance Power Units for the 2026 engine regulations.
Applying state of the art precision instrumentation, Computer Aided Design and rapid manufacturing techniques, you will grow into an engineer capable of measuring and defining the operating environment of a Power Unit in microsecond resolution and describing it to stakeholders to drive decisions affecting the performance and durability of the Power Unit in 2026 and beyond.
Candidates wishing to apply for this role should be studying towards a Mechanical/ Automotive/ Electrical Engineering or Physics degree and be able to demonstrate practical experience outside of education. You should be very computer literate but equally capable of performing hands-on tasks.
The key accountabilities are:
- Designing then carrying out measurement tests on Power Units, subsystems and rigs to validate new designs and support fault analysis of failed components
- Interpreting and reporting out results and conclusions in a clear manner to be interpreted by non-specialists
- Designing fixtures and jigs to support the measurement tasks
- Hands on physical build, implementation of projects, upgrades and designed assemblies
Key Attributes of the successful candidate:
- Ability to break complex technical problems down to fundamental principles and understand the contributing physics
- Experience of modelling components in CAD and understanding of creating and reading technical drawings
- Positive, can-do, attitude and willingness to learn new skills
- Ability to follow best practice and work on multiple tasks simultaneously
- Excellent communication skills and experience working in a team environment
- Hands-on approach to problem solving
- Ability to logically and methodically investigate faults and failures
