At the heart of our aerodynamic development lies one of the most advanced wind tunnel facilities in motorsport.
We’re seeking an exceptional Lead Control Systems Engineer to take ownership of the design, development, and optimisation of the electronic and control systems that power our aerodynamic testing capability.
This is a hands-on leadership role, balancing technical depth with strategic oversight. You’ll lead innovation in embedded systems, firmware, and LabVIEW software that enable precise model control, real-time data acquisition, and world-class reliability.
Your expertise will ensure our wind tunnel remains a cornerstone of competitive performance, delivering accuracy, consistency, and speed when it matters most.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the creation and evolution of LabVIEW software for test rigs, calibration systems, and model subsystems, ensuring efficient control and data acquisition.
- Own the end-to-end development, maintenance, and optimisation of all electronic and electrical assemblies, ensuring maximum reliability and performance.
- Lead the design and enhancement of firmware across embedded systems, establishing robust coding standards and development best practices.
- Provide operational support for the wind tunnel control systems, swiftly diagnosing issues, minimising downtime, and maintaining system performance during testing.
- Lead data analysis and troubleshooting activities, offering expert guidance on root-cause diagnosis and the resolution of complex technical faults.
- Collaborate closely with mechanical, software, and operations teams to deliver integrated aerodynamic testing solutions.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers, fostering continuous learning and technical excellence within the team.
- Proven expertise in test techniques, model motion, control strategies, and PLC systems.
- Strong proficiency in LabVIEW and NI hardware (CompactRIO and FPGA) for control and monitoring applications.
- Demonstrated leadership in analogue and digital electronic design, including schematic capture, PCB layout, and development through to production.
- Advanced experience developing and debugging firmware in C for embedded microcontroller systems.
- Deep understanding of sensor design and signal conditioning.
- Strong familiarity with communication protocols such as CAN, EtherCAT, TCP, and UDP.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to perform under pressure.
- Effective communicator with experience leading cross-functional technical projects in fast-paced, high-performance environments.
