We are seeking an experienced Trackside IT Reliability Lead to join our IT Department here in Silverstone !
Within this role you will ensure the highest levels of reliability and availability of all trackside IT systems during testing, practice, qualifying, and race sessions. This is a high-pressure, high-visibility role that requires proactive problem-solving, technical expertise, and outstanding leadership. You will lead a team of engineers, drive continuous improvement, and collaborate across multiple technical disciplines to maintain mission-critical systems in a fast-paced F1 environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the IT Trackside Reliability team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and performance.
- Oversee, monitor, and maintain critical trackside IT infrastructure to ensure minimal downtime.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all IT incidents during race events, coordinating resolution with stakeholders and support teams.
- Design and implement failover, redundancy, and contingency protocols with the IT Trackside & Technical Architecture teams.
- Enhance system reliability through automation, monitoring, and predictive analytics.
- Conduct post-event root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to improve future stability.
- Execute rigorous test scenarios, including failure simulations, to validate trackside system resilience.
- Support telemetry, data acquisition, video analysis, and communications platforms during events.
- Document architectures, incident reports, and improvement plans in line with ITSM best practices.
- Maintain compliance with FIA regulations and optimize IT systems for peak performance.
- Mentor and develop engineers, managing workloads, objectives, and performance reviews.
- Build strong relationships across IT and Trackside Operations to ensure effective collaboration.
- Expert knowledge of mission-critical infrastructure: servers, networking, virtualization, and storage systems.
- Strong understanding of high-availability, disaster recovery, and time-critical IT environments.
- Hands-on experience with monitoring and logging tools (Nagios, Prometheus, Grafana, Zabbix, ELK Stack, Splunk).
- Scripting and automation experience (PowerShell, Python, Ansible) to improve response times and reduce errors.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills in live-event, high-pressure scenarios.
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills for managing cross-functional teams.
- Experience in team development, performance reviews, and objective setting.
- Knowledge of ITIL framework and its application in motorsport is desirable.
- Familiarity with secure, efficient data transfer technologies (WAN acceleration, multicast video, telemetry protocols).
- Ability to travel extensively, both in the UK and internationally (includes driving).
