Description

We are looking for an IT & Communications Trackside Engineer to join our hugely talented IT department at our world class facility based in Silverstone!

The successful candidate will play a vital role in providing a high level of IP and radio communications to the F1 race team and be solely responsible for the set up, maintaining and packing down of all communications at the track.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take on full responsibility for set up and pack down of all radio, intercom and IT equipment in all events throughout the F1 race and test season using detailed checklists (garage and extending office/trucks).
  • Ensure all intercom equipment is powered and working, and to work closely with the intercom vendor to ensure that any firmware upgrades are completed and hardware is replaced when required.
  • Ensure that radios are constantly charged and operational during the race weekend.
  • Program all communication hardware and software including radios, belt packs, intercom panels and virtual panels.
  • Monitor the system’s availability to ensure they are always running and operational, and to proactively manage and immediately respond to any reported issues.
  • Provide a high level of support to the whole race team from senior leadership to mechanics.
  • Liaise with other key partners in the pitlane and ensure communications to both the race team and the car are always functional, this includes communications with the FIA / FOM / Marelli.
  • Promote change and improvements to infrastructure, both in and out of the busy season, ensuring change control and risk is factored in on all occasions.
  • Work closely as a team in supporting incident and problem management processes.
  • Actively contribute to new and on-going systems-related projects, both at the track and the factory.
  • Maintain communications hardware stock control and asset control, to manage freighting duties between air freight and sea freight, and to conduct audit administration
  • Maintain and support change management following ITIL processes.


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Proven experience in communications within the motorsport industry or a similar fast-paced environment.
  • Proven experience with common desktop and server platforms including VMware; MS Windows Server; MS Windows; MS Office; Active Directory; MS Exchange; MS SQL; MS Terminal Services; Client & Server hardware; SAN & Storage hardware.
  • Experience with Networking (Cisco/Juniper/Palo/HP), preferably with a formal qualification/certification.
  • Awareness of, or qualified in ITIL methodologies.
  • Prior knowledge of Motorsport based toolsets and applications, for example, McLaren Applied Technologies, motorsport intercom systems etc. would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of or experience in Cloud based technologies such as MS Azure / Office 365 / Linux Kubernetes technology.
