Established in 2022, Aston Martin Performance Technologies (AMPT) Special Projects is the advanced engineering division of the Aston Martin Racing Performance Group.

AMPT Special Projects is focused on applying our F1-derived high-performance engineering, innovation, technical expertise and breakthrough technologies, to deliver high-performance engineering projects outside of Formula One™.

With a programme portfolio that spans automotive and non-automotive sectors, we are looking for a range of driven, world-class engineers to join us on this exciting journey of solving complex challenges beyond the racetrack.

We have a new opportunity to be part of the Aston Martin Performance Technologies Special Projects team in the role of Composite Design Engineer.

As a Composite Design Engineer in our AMPT Special Projects division you will be instrumental in delivering high-performance composite components from concept through to production. You’ll contribute to ground-breaking innovations, supporting the development of next-generation commercial applications through advanced engineering design.

You will also represent AMPT externally, ensuring a high technical and professional standard is maintained with customers, partners, suppliers, and institutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Designing and developing composite components from concept to completion, including packaging, surfacing, and tooling.
  • Producing detailed CAD models, assembly drawings, and laminate specifications.
  • Collaborating closely with structures, production, and aerodynamic teams to ensure structural integrity and performance.
  • Driving continuous improvement through iterative testing and design refinement.
  • Resolving technical issues during manufacturing, testing, and development.
  • Supporting project planning, mass tracking, compliance, and progress reporting.
  • Contributing to innovation, business systems, patent applications, and best practices.

Skills, Knowledge And Expertise

  • Degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Motorsport Engineering or similar.
  • Experience in Formula 1, high-level motorsport or a leading tech/engineering company.
  • Strong proficiency in CATIA V6/3DX, with surfacing and solid modelling skills.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T, composite materials, lightweight design principles, and fastener selection.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Excel, Project, Power BI).
  • Skilled in managing pressure, adapting to rapid change, and working as part of a collaborative team.
  • Effective communicator with a proactive and professional approach.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and innovation in all aspects of engineering.
  • Some travel may be required to meet project and company needs. Flexibility, adaptability, and a commitment to excellence are essential.
