Description

We are looking for an experienced Buyer to join AMPT Automotive working on a 6-month fixed term contract. In this role you will be responsible for the procurement of high-performance engineering and technology components in a fast-paced, high-tech environment. This role is critical to ensuring a robust, cost-effective, and high-quality supply chain that enables the delivery of cutting-edge engineering solutions and world-class commercial applications.

Working closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Finance, and the wider Procurement team, you will take ownership of supplier relationships, procurement strategies, and continuous improvement initiatives that directly impact business performance.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the procurement of complex components and assemblies across multiple engineering projects, aligning with commercial, operational, and strategic objectives.
  • Develop, manage, and strengthen key supplier relationships, driving improvements in lead time, cost, and quality.
  • Negotiate supplier contracts and commercial agreements to secure best value and sustainable cost savings.
  • Oversee supplier onboarding in collaboration with the Supplier Quality team, enhancing supply chain capability and resilience.
  • Maintain accurate and reliable data within the ERP system, ensuring full visibility of orders, supply status, and supplier performance.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate supply chain risks, proactively escalating issues to protect continuity of supply.
  • Work closely with Engineering and Manufacturing to ensure procured components meet technical specifications and quality standards.
  • Develop and monitor supplier KPIs, driving continuous performance improvement across delivery, cost, and quality metrics.
  • Drive continuous improvement within procurement processes, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and alignment with industry best practice.
  • Participate in procurement and cross-functional meetings, contributing to collaborative problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Maintain professional standards of conduct, respecting reporting structures and company policies.
  • Keep skills and knowledge current, maintaining a strong understanding of procurement and supply chain best practices.
  • Undertake any other duties reasonably required in line with the role.


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Extensive experience in procurement and supply chain management within a high-tech engineering or advanced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of procurement strategies, supplier management, and contract negotiation.
  • Proven ability to manage supplier performance, negotiate costs, and implement risk mitigation and process improvement initiatives.
  • Degree or qualification in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience sourcing a wide range of materials, including composites, metallics, electronics, and proprietary components.
  • Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems such as SAP, IFS, or similar.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with a results-driven mindset.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and remain calm under pressure in a demanding environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships internally and externally.
  • Collaborative, enthusiastic, and adaptable approach to work.
  • Strong commitment to health and safety standards and compliance.
  • Willingness to travel as required to support suppliers, business needs, or industry events.
